Biden to Take Urgent Action to Undo Trump’s Damage and Reclaim America’s Values

The Trump Administration’s cruel and senseless policies that separate parents from their children at our border, including ending the prosecution of parents for minor immigration violations as an intimidation tactic, and prioritize the reunification of any children still separated from their families. End Trump’s detrimental asylum policies. This requires federal rulemaking changes often taking 90 days or more comment periods.

End prolonged detention with a case management program.   Biden will codify protections to safeguard children to make sure their treatment is consistent with their best interest and invest in community-based case management programs

Reverse Trump’s public charge rule.  By not Allowing immigration officials to make an individual’s ability to receive a visa or gain permanent residency contingent on their use of government services such as SNAP benefits or Medicaid. This requires a public rule change of at least 90 days.

End the so-called National Emergency Wall Order that siphons federal dollars from  Department of Defense to build a wall. 
Protect Dreamers and their families by reinstating the DACA program, and he will explore all legal options to protect their families from inhumane separation. 

Rescind the travel and refugee bans, also referred to as “Muslim bans.

Immediate review of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for vulnerable populations. 

Restore sensible enforcement priorities. Biden will direct enforcement efforts toward threats to public safety and national security, while ensuring that individuals are treated with the due process to which they are entitled and their human rights are protected. 

Ensure that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel abide by professional standards and are held accountable for inhumane treatment.

Joe Biden will work with Congress to pass legislation that:Creates a roadmap to citizenship 

Reform the visa program for temporary workers in select industries. Then, Biden will support expanding the number of high-skilled visas and eliminating the limits on employment-based visas by country, which create unacceptably long backlogs. 

Provide a path to legalization for agricultural workers who have worked for years. Preserves preferences for diversity in the current system.

Diversity preferences are essential to preserving a robust and vibrant immigration system. 

Increase the number of visas offered for permanent, work-based immigration based on macroeconomic conditions.  Biden believes that foreign graduates of a U.S. doctoral program should be given a green card with their degree and that losing these highly trained workers to foreign economies is a disservice to our own economic competitiveness. 

Create a new visa category to allow cities and counties to petition for higher levels of immigrants to support their growth.  Holders of these visas would be required to work and reside in the city or county that petitioned for them, and would be subject to the same certification protections as other employment-based immigrants. 

Expand protection to exercise the labor rights 

Revitalize the Task Force on New Americans As president, Biden will: Marshal federal resources, through the reestablishment of the Task Force for New Americans, to support community efforts to welcome immigrants. 

Establishing Local Offices of Immigrant Affairs in city halls, or at the county and state levels, so there are local government officials focused on making policies inclusive;
Creating neighborhood resource centers or welcome centers to help all residents. f

Restore asylum eligibility for domestic violence survivors. VAWA

Apply U.S. asylum laws to those fleeing political persecution. 

Double the number of immigration judges, court staff, and interpreters. End for-profit detention centers. 

Increase the number of refugees we welcome into the country. He will set the annual global refugee admissions cap to 125,000, and seek to raise it over time commensurate with our responsibility, our values, and the unprecedented global need.

Tackle the Root Causes of MigrationTo pursue a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the security and prosperity of Central America in partnership with the people of the region. 
Manage migration through refugee resettlement and other legal programs. 

Implement Effective Border Screening

Invest in modern technology coupled with privacy protections at the border, both at and between ports of entry, including cameras, sensors, large-scale x-ray machines, and fixed towers.
